Funnily enough, the very first prototype of Dudebro II (made by Ultim8poo) was a 2D sidescroller. Here are some rare screenshots from this unseen version.
Retrospective Part 4: Alternate Prototype
Monday, May 2nd, 2011Retrospective Part 3: Official Art
Monday, April 25th, 2011Once the team decided to move ahead with the game, Jocchan drew a couple of pieces of official art to expand on Dudebro’s established character. Here are those pieces.
The first piece of art shows a back view of Dudebro; echoing iconic scenes and the boxarts of several games this generation starring similarly macho protagonists.
The second piece shows off the ridiculous design of a certain weapon. This sets the tone for the over the top nature of game in addition to displaying the pure badassery of the main character by being able to operate such a device.
Retrospective Part 2: Zbrush Renders
Monday, April 18th, 2011To continue the retrospective, let’s resume the story of Dudebro’s conception.
While everyone was fooling around and laughing at the funny photoshops, a certain poster decided to take it one step further. That poster was Mik2121, who had modeled a few actual renders of the Dudebro concept art. This was vital in transforming Dudebro into a full blown game concept from the humble joke it started as. He even streamed it so fellow posters could enjoy the creation process. Here are those renders.

Retrospective Part 1: Photoshops and Art
Monday, April 11th, 2011Over the next few weeks, we’ll be doing a retrospective on Dudebro’s first few months in development. To kick things off, let’s take a look back at Dudebro II’s very first hours of life.
As many know, the idea started as a joke based on a comment made by forum member cuyahoga. Back in the original thread, before the final decision of turning it into a real game was made, a deluge of art and funny photoshops soon followed the infamous post. Here is a collection of some of this material, including one “concept screen” pretty damn similar to what the game turned out to be structured like, with major props to everyone involved!

April Fool’s Day 2011
Friday, April 1st, 2011Update:
Well, now April Fool’s day is gone, and all pre-orders are coincidentally cancelled.
Yes, it was just a joke.
We did keep track of some stats for the choices, anyway, to see which ones were the most popular. So, if you’re curious, Nostalgia Cam won by far, with 58.09% of the clicks, followed by the Frogbro Suit at exactly 25% (no, we didn’t track how many clicked the “I am American” box). Equal Opportunities Mode follows at 7.35%, Doughbro Suit at 6.25% and Beer Goggles Mode at 3.31%.
Making this joke was enjoyable for us, and we hope it made you all smile too.
The pre-order website will stay online, clearly marked as a joke, without the e-mail sending part. If you didn’t get the e-mail and want to see how it used to look, you can check a screenshot here.
Normal updates will resume as usual on Monday, April 11th.

Dudebro Miis (and 3D goodies)!
Monday, March 28th, 2011The Nintendo 3DS has just released in the West, ushering in a new generation of gaming. Since the ever growing world of interactive entertainment just got even bigger, we made some Dudebro-themed Miis (special thanks to Disguises for the John Dudebro Mii!).
Here they are, along with QR codes to import them easily on your device.
The Mii art style is quite a far cry from Dudebro’s. Our titular hero even had to give up his pony-tail just so he could wear his iconic hat. But he still looks badass, so much that he was even spotted on Miiverse once.
As an added bonus, we also put together a few goodies (in 3D!) for your 3DS to celebrate the occasion. Check them out here, and make sure you extract the archive to the root folder of your SD card.
Dudebro’s face (click here) works quite well with “Face Raiders”.
Internet Bro Fist
Monday, March 21st, 2011To thank all of you out there following Dudebro II, especially those who have been doing so from the very beginning, here’s a well-deserved bro fist through the Internet. Please place your fist below!
Piston Sledge
Monday, March 14th, 2011The grandson of Sgt. Justin Sledge, Dudebro’s partner during WWII.
Piston was coincidentally assigned to him as well for the events of Dudebr0 – 0nce Up0n a Time Bef0re 0rigins Divisi0n By Zer0 0: The 0ne Set In Japan, the one prequel game set in Japan, when the duo was tasked to rescue the President, held prisoner by a mysterious group of ninjas. They soon became best bros and fought countless battles together over the following years.
While his efficiency as a soldier rivals that of Dudebro, the two are profoundly different in character. Still a lover of easy women, Sledge is friendlier and wiser than his counterpart. His fighting style is also more covert (but only slightly). He wears a full camouflage attire with a bandolier of large armor-piercing bullets, even though they don’t fit any of his weapons, plus night vision goggles and shades at the same time, effectively cancelling out the function of both.
Looking badass during a mission is the only function you need. I say it works pretty well.
— General Dawgless Lee
Dudebro and Sledge shared an intense bromance while members of the B.R.O. Alliance. Rarely would the duo not be together. This made it all the more jarring when the two drifted apart. However, Dudebro has never forgotten about his former partner.
Of course I haven’t forgotten. That bro knew how to party. I’ll find him eventually and we’ll throw back a few cold ones.
— John Dudebro
His current whereabouts and appearance are unknown, but with the bond tying him to Dudebro, it’s reasonable to expect the two will meet up again somehow.
Unused concept art: Brain Seeker
Monday, March 7th, 2011Here we have the Brain Seeker’s original design. As you can see, there are some notable differences when compared to the final version. The stock looks more like a guitar and the brain, rather than directly in contact with the gun itself, is inside a jar curiously placed in front of the scope so “you can’t seek brains because there’s a goddamn brain in the way”.
This intentional flaw wasn’t easy to convey correctly, though, so the design evolved into something way more badass. Of course just as impractical, if not more so.
First Prototype
Monday, February 28th, 2011Here we have a small glimpse from the past; a long-forgotten screenshot from one of the very first prototype builds. As you can see, the layout is very basic and there isn’t much going on. Dudebro didn’t even have a working sprite or 3D model at this point, so he looked mysteriously like a red cylinder with a ball on top. The project has grown quite a bit since then, and it really shows!
